Forming Companies in Italy

Economic activity can be organized in Italy in different forms. Foreign investors are free to participate in any area of the Italian economy.
The business forms in Italy are classified based primarily on their organizational structure:
  •  Companies of Persons: these include the Società semplice (proprietorship), the Società in name collettivo or S.n.c. (general partnership), and the Società in accomandita semplice or S.a.s. (limited partnership)
  •   Capital-based Companies: the Società per azioni or S.p.A. (joint-stock company), the Società a responsibilità limitata or S.r.l. (limited liability company), and the Società in accomandita per azioni or S.a.p.A. (limited partnership with shares)
  •  the Società cooperativa (cooperative) and the Società di mutua assicurazione (mutual insurance co.)
